With so many of us homebound due to Coronavirus, there suddenly seems to be a lot of extra free time and nowhere to go! For the many supporters of Habitat that are normally on build sites, in offices, or at events….you may be at a loss for how to continue supporting your community when you can’t leave your house, so here are 6 ways to continue supporting Habitat for Humanity without risking spreading Coronavirus.

Sign Up for Future Events: With so many events being canceled, it’s hard to remember there are still summer events on the calendar. The future may seem unclear, but we want people to stay optimistic! Events like our yearly Habitat 500 Bike Ride are still on the schedule, and we would love to see your name added to the list of riders or volunteers. Local affiliates have events coming up in the next few months as well. These events act as major fundraisers for Habitat and your optimism and participation is key!

Be an Advocate: Write a letter to your Congressperson. Tell them all about why you want to change policies and systems so that we can eliminate barriers to adequate, affordable housing. Our vision is a world where everyone has a decent place to live. Spread that vision and make your voice heard!

Make A Monetary Donation: This one may sound the most obvious, but it’s also one of the most important. With offices and ReStores closing and so many events canceled, Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota and many of its affiliates will take a bit of a financial hit. There’s no better time than now to donate.

Live Our Values: This emergency is affecting everyone. Now more than ever, it is important to be empathetic and look out for the people around you. Habitats goal has always been to build a stronger community through affordable housing. Maybe you can’t be out building a home today, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be helping your community grow stronger. Check in with older family members and neighbors, don’t over-buy products, go outside and pick up trash, offer childcare to friends in need if you’re able, wash your hands, or connect virtually with friends. Look to support the people around you. Help build a stronger community.

Shop Online: Habitat International and many local affiliates not only offer merchandise you can purchase online but are also on AmazonSmile so you can do your normal shopping and raise money for Habitat at the same time! Find Habitat Minnesota on Amazon Smile, too!

Follow Us on Social Media: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, etc. Stay up to date with what’s happening at Habitat for Humanity of Minnesota and your local affiliate! Even better? Share our information with your friends and family! This is one of the best and easiest things you can do to support Habitat.
